Job description

Our client is delivering a major large-scale cloud infrastructure project and is looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join the team.

This role is focused on optimising, automating, and scaling critical cloud infrastructure to support real-time distributed systems at high scale. You will be responsible for ensuring reliability, performance, and efficiency across a cloud-native platform, working with Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD automation, and observability tools.

If you have experience managing high-availability cloud environments and want to work on some of the most complex infrastructure challenges in the industry, this role offers a unique opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improve scalability, performance, and automation for large-scale cloud infrastructure.
  • Manage and optimise Kubernetes (EKS) clusters and cloud-native deployments.
  • Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines for seamless application and infrastructure provisioning.
  • Troubleshoot distributed systems issues, reducing downtime and increasing efficiency.
  • Automate infrastructure management using Terraform, Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions with Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to ensure uptime, fault tolerance, and system reliability.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Five or more years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps, or Cloud Engineering.
  • Strong Linux administration experience (CentOS, Ubuntu, RHEL).
  • Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting for automation.
  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience (EKS, AKS, or GKE) in production environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
  • Familiarity with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)-even if not on your CV, this will be covered in interviews.
  • Cloud experience with AWS and/or Azure, with a preference for multi-cloud exposure.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in high-scale, high-traffic environments.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in a large-scale or Tier 1 technology environment.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with SaltStack for configuration management, or a strong background in Ansible/Terraform.

Why Apply

  • Work on a cutting-edge cloud infrastructure project for a globally recognised tech company.
  • Competitive contract rates of $900 - $1,000 per day (including super).
  • Hybrid work model with 2-3 days per week in the Sydney CBD office.
  • High potential for contract extensions, with ongoing infrastructure projects.
  • Exposure to leading-edge technologies including Kubernetes, Terraform, Kafka, and advanced observability tools.
