Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join their Sydney or NewCastle team. This is a contract role until June 2025. This role requires some travel within the Newcastle area.

As a Systems Engineer you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of critical IT infrastructure components, including Active Directory, VMWare, Windows Server, and Microsoft 365. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the performance, availability, and security of key platforms, supporting both business-as-usual (BAU) operations and project activities.

To be successful in this role you must:

  • Administer and maintain Active Directory services, including user and group management, Group Policy configuration, and domain controller maintenance.
  • Manage VMWare ESXi hosts and virtual machine environments, ensuring optimal performance, resource allocation, and high availability.
  • Perform Windows Server administration tasks, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of server roles and features.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Teams, ensuring smooth operation and adherence to security best practices.
  • Implement patch management processes to ensure timely deployment of security updates and patches across all platforms.
  • Monitor system performance and availability, proactively identifying and addressing issues to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks on operating platforms, including backups, system upgrades, and hardware/software maintenance.
  • Provide support for business-as-usual (BAU) operations, responding to incidents, service requests, and user queries in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with project teams to support the implementation of new systems, upgrades, and migrations, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure

To be considered for this role you must:

  • Strong understanding of ITIL principles and best practices, particularly in the areas of incident, problem, and change management.
  • Familiarity with networking principles, protocols, and technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in patch management, system monitoring, and performance optimization.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of network topologies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels. Proven ability working in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting for automation and task automation.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments and Azure Active Directory.
