Job description

The role requires:

  • Extensive experience in multi-residential projects.
  • These projects are government-funded and involve a mix of social, affordable, and market housing
  • Strong understanding of architectural regulatory frameworks (ADG).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Design sensibility, with a preference for design architect experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Technical skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam (easily learned).
  • No CAD proficiency required.

Accountabilities:

Your exact accountabilites will depend on the teams you are working with and the specific scopes of the projects they are leading, but may include the following:

  • Assist the development team with selection and procurement of design consultants including preparing scopes of work outlining planning requirements (e.g. SEARs)
  • With the development manager, creating the briefing pack for the design team, including the Development Brief, target yield schedules and design requirements & guidelines.
  • With the planner and the development team, provide guidance on interpretation of the site constraints and opportunities, and provide feedback on the design concepts submitted to ensure alignment with design standards and project requirements.
  • Represent in forums such as SDRP and with key stakeholders including local councils.
  • Through participation in design workshops, meetings and feedback on draft deliverables, provide guidance to the design team to optimise site planning, yield and efficiencies, building design and material selection, authority approval strategies and processes, construction detailing, and safety in design across various project typologies in the concept design, planning approval and design development phases, as well as provide guidance and support in the construction phase for projects
  • Undertake detailed Project design review incorporating a value engineering approach to support compliance with various LAHC Standards & Specifications, Statutory authorities such as NCC and relevant Australian Standards.

This role would suit a Design Manager for a large government department. You will have a passion for design excellence and extensive experience in residential design, construction and delivery.
