Excel Developer



Position Summary

The Excel Developer works under the direction of the IDS Data Analytics Lead and in close collaboration with the Investment Data and Systems (IDS) team, Technology, Investment Management (IM) and Investment Execution (IE) team.

Principal accountabilities

Excel (spreadsheet) development

  • Works across IDS, IM and IE to collate, understand and maintain clear data requirements to drive:
    • Automation and centralisation of data driven reporting,
    • Implementation of investment reporting through automation,
    • Informed decisions across IM and IE based on accurate data and exceptional visualisation outcomes.
  • Assists with the development, uplift and remediation of client's spreadsheet engines in accordance with the IDS spreadsheet standards and delivery in line with the IDS Software Delivery Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Actively works with key stakeholders (Investment Execution and Investment Management) to drive consolidation of spreadsheets and retirement through automated, systemic solutions in line with Client's spreadsheet roadmap.
  • Contributes to the IDS "hub and spoke" model that integrates:
    • A Data Source Layer - nominally Investment Data Systems (IDS) Enterprise Data Warehouse solution.
    • A Warehouse Layer - including data extraction and aggregation methods, transformation, load and clear exception processes.
    • A Reporting Layer - extraction of required warehouse data provide automated, spreadsheet reporting solutions.
  • Work with IDS Data Analytics, IDS Delivery and IDS Data Management to translate data-related requirements to a fit-for-purpose solution that meets business needs.
  • Maintaining and providing production support for client's engine spreadsheets.

Technical knowledge
The technical knowledge and capability required for the person to be successful in the role.

  • Knowledge of the superannuation, and investment data management platforms such as Portfolio Management Systems, Risk/Performance systems, Bloomberg, Eagle, Markit, Golden Source
  • Proficient in at least one language - preferably VBA.
  • Abilities in use of SQL, R, and Python.

  • Strong analytical ability, research-driven problem solving, and time/attention management skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a fast- paced, ambiguous working environment exercising excellent judgement skills with an ability to analyse issues quickly
  • Proven ability to effectively plan, prioritise and manage multiple and competing activities to deliver data and analytics services to meet business expectations
  • Excellent understanding of data warehouse and ETL, including best practice methodologies and their application within highly governed, corporate environments
  • Data quality initiatives such as analysis of large data sets to identify patterns and anomalies


Qualifications

  • An undergraduate qualification in data science, mathematics, accounting, finance, investments, or other relevant area.
  • Data qualification/certification (DAMA, TDWU CBIP, Cloud, Big Data, Analytics, Data Science, Database).
