Senior System Engineer

• 6 Month contract + high potential to extend
• Day rate up to $1000 + Super depending on provided experience
• Hybrid working arrangement - WFH/Office

Our client is seeking an experienced senior system engineer to lead the modernisation and migration of their AD environments. This role requires deep technical expertise in AD design, and cloud-based identity management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and analyse the current Active Directory environments to identify areas for improvement and remediation.
• Resolve issues preventing the upgrade of platform components across five AD domains.
• Upgrade Domain Controllers, AD Forest, and Domain Functional Levels to supported versions.
• Deploy management tools to ensure security, reliability, performance, maintainability, scalability, and usability.
• Provide technical troubleshooting at the platform level until full decommissioning.
• Plan and document migration and decommissioning activities.
• Collaborate with AD consumers to migrate services to the target environment.
• Lead the shutdown and decommissioning of legacy domains and infrastructure.
• Report progress and status updates to the Engineering Manager and stakeholders.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and strategic engineering initiatives within the team and platform.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Expert level experience in Active Directory engineering, administration, and support.
• Strong understanding of security controls and system hardening.
• Experience modernising identity environments and working with Entra ID (Azure AD) and cloud-based authentication.
• Proficiency in scripting and coding, with familiarity in GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience in upgrading and migrating Active Directory environments to supported versions and platforms.
• Hands-on experience with AD management and security tools, including AD backup and recovery, monitoring, auditing, group policy, and access management.
• Experience working with complex, large-scale AD environments, including multiple domains, forests, sites, and trusts.
