Job description

Our Federal Government Client is looking for an experienced, technical Senior ICT OpenShift Administrator. This is a 12 months contacting role with a 24 months extension option. This role is open to ACT, NSW, QLD, SA, VIC. This role has a hybrid working option available. This role is open to Australian Citizens with the ability to obtain an NV1 Security Clearance.

To be successful in fulfilling this role you must have:

  • Design, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot OpenShift or other Kubernetes clusters in enterprise environments, ensuring high availability, reliability and scalability.
  • Assist developers in automating the deployment, scaling, and management of containerised applications using OpenShift, utilising our GitOps platform and CI/CD pipelines for efficient service delivery.
  • Oversee cluster management (inc. in-place cluster upgrades), resource allocation, configuration management, and capacity planning within Red Hat OpenShift environments, ensuring optimal performance and responsible resource utilisation.
  • Develop and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Helm to support scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure.
  • Ensure the security of OpenShift environments by implementing best practices, including vulnerability scanning, network segmentation, and role-based access control.
  • Lead technical teams in the execution of OpenShift projects, mentoring junior engineers and managing project timelines and deliverables.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, architects, and business stakeholders, to ensure smooth operations and alignment with business goals.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of systems, processes, and best practices, and actively share knowledge with the team.
  • On-call duties may be required in extenuating circumstances however this is not the default expectation.
  • Occasional/infrequent out of hours support may be required for maintenance or supporting activities.

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • Highly desirable: Certifications in Cloud Platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or a willingness to obtain these certifications within the first 3-6 months of employment.
  • Experience and knowledge across a breadth of ICT technologies or methodologies is highly desirable, these include: Kubernetes, Ansible, Helm, Python & Bash, I/CD Pipelines, Git, Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or related field highly desirable, or demonstrated continuous professional experience of at least 5+ years in a large scale ICT environment, and additionally 3+ years in a large scale kubernetes environment is a suitable alternative.
  • Experience :At least 5+ years of experience in system administering - Including experience in OpenShift/Kubernetes cluster administration. Extensive experience in Kubernetes administration - Including networking, security, storage, and troubleshooting within containerised environments. Experience in a government or highly regulated environment, with demonstrated compliance to standards such as the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Essential 8
  • Mandatory: Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration or equivalent certification, or a willingness to obtain these certifications within the first 3-6 months of employment.
