Job description

Our client, a leading mining organisation, is seeking an experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) & Software License Management (SLM) Specialist to drive best practices in technology asset governance. This critical role ensures optimal software license utilisation, compliance, and risk mitigation while enhancing overall technology investment efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end Software Asset Management (SAM) and Software License Management (SLM) processes, ensuring compliance, cost efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Manage software licensing, including procurement, entitlement tracking, renewals, and vendor negotiations.
  • Maintain accurate asset records within the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), including dependencies and lifecycle tracking.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for license optimisation, compliance, and audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with procurement and finance teams to manage contracts, budgets, and forecasts for software and hardware assets.
  • Provide insights and reporting on software usage, risks, and optimisation opportunities.
  • Support Hardware Asset Management (HAM) activities, including asset tracking, forecasting, and e-waste disposal.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in Software Asset Management (SAM) and Software License Management (SLM) (minimum 3+ years).
  • Strong understanding of software licensing models, compliance requirements, and vendor agreements.
  • Experience with SAM tools (e.g., Flexera, ServiceNow, SNOW License Manager, or similar).
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and asset lifecycle management best practices.
  • Configuration Management Database (CMDB) expertise, ensuring accurate asset tracking and reporting.
  • Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and drive cost-saving initiatives.
  • Bonus: Experience with Hardware Asset Management (HAM) and end-user computing assets.
  • Advanced Excel and reporting skills for data analysis and visualisation.
