Job description

Our client is a large government department, and they are currently in need of an experienced Data Analyst to join them on a 12 month contract + 2 x 12 month extensions on offer. This role is based on Brisbane's northside in Carseldine and will offer 50% work from home.

The Role:

In broad terms, the Data Analyst will collect large amounts of data from 7 in scope applications, analyse it to get a clear understanding of data patterns and develop data cleansing/transformation activities to uplift the data quality. The role will have a strong focus on collecting, analysing, creating visuals, and recommending cleanup and transformation based on data patterns for the new solution.


The role encompasses proactive engagement and communication with the business representatives; program and project team members including Program Director, Project Director/Manager, Business Analysts, Technical Specialists, Architects, Change and Communication Specialists; and implementation partners. The Data Analyst must demonstrate the ability to be flexible and adaptable within a high pressure and changing environment and effectively manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute data collection strategies to gather relevant information.
  • Investigate and interpret data to identify insights and develop activities to uplift data quality.
  • Ensure data privacy and security is maintained throughout all data migration processes.
  • Collaborate with project team members and business stakeholders to understand the current state of the data and provide recommendations to uplift the data quality.
  • Handle data, understand its intricacies, and oversee the filtering and cleansing of data to ensure its quality and integrity during data migration processes.
  • Undertake the analysis of in scope source datasets and ensure data profiling, data cleansing including cleansing rules definition, and data mapping takes place.
  • Produce and ensure the quality of all analysis outputs such as visuals, detailed data maps, business rules, mapping rules, use cases, test cases etc.
  • Analyse and define new process improvement opportunities to support continuous improvement and business outcomes; provide advice to stakeholders, on ways to improve the efficiency and reliability of data products and services.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years demonstrated experience working in data analysis of large datasets with uncontrolled data.
  • Capable of critically evaluating data to derive trends, patterns and actionable insights.
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis tools and techniques.
  • Possess a solid foundation in statistics and practical experience with statistical software (such as Excel, PowerBI) and data analysis languages (such as SQL, Python).
  • Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in using spreadsheets and dashboards.
