Job description


Role Overview: As an Entry-Level Support Storage Engineer, you will assist in the establishment and ongoing management of the storage infrastructure. You will play a key role in the implementation, administration, and maintenance of storage systems, ensuring their optimal performance and availability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Setup and Preparation:
    • Assist in formulating and submitting requests for information related to the implementation and operation of existing storage platforms.
    • Review available documentation and participate in workshops to understand existing storage systems, preparing for the transition to storage operations.
    • Develop and maintain storage operations documentation, such as System Understanding Documents and Standard Operating Procedures, in preparation for the service go-live.
    • Demonstrate readiness for service go-live in accordance with the established service plan and schedule.
  • Ongoing Storage Operations and Administration:
    • Monitor storage systems to ensure their health and performance.
    • Conduct regular health checks, performance management, and availability management.
    • Manage storage capacity, perform patching, and handle routine administration and maintenance tasks.
    • Resolve incidents in both production and non-production environments, aiming to minimize downtime and performance impacts.
    • Address and work through backlogs of storage-related problem tickets.
    • Provision storage resources and fulfill service requests related to storage.
  • Documentation and Process Improvement:
    • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for storage infrastructure, processes, and procedures.
    • Contribute to aligning storage operations with DevOps and Agile principles.
    • Support the adoption of automation for storage management and operational tasks.
  • Collaboration and Compliance:
    • Work closely with other storage administrators and broader infrastructure teams (compute, storage, network, datacentre, and public cloud).
    • Implement and adhere to security best practices, ensuring compliance with applicable security standards, including those for federal government agencies.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the team.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: While specific experience is not required, familiarity with SAN, NAS, converged infrastructure, public cloud storage platforms, and backup systems is beneficial. Experience with HPE, Cisco, Brocade SAN fabrics, Hitachi, HP storage, Nutanix, NetBackup, and HP tape libraries is a plus.
  • Certifications: Basic knowledge of IT Service Management and ITIL frameworks is desired. ITIL v4 certification is preferred or must be obtained within 8 weeks of starting the role.
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, and the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attributes: Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
